Naarden-Vesting

The best preserved fortified city in the Netherlands.

Naarden-Vesting was granted city rights in 1351, making it the only real city in the Gooi to this day. Due to its strategic location, Naarden became a military fortress in the 16th century and part of the Dutch Waterline. In the 17th century it got its characteristic and beautifully preserved star-shaped plan with double walls, gatehouses and bastions. The whole town breathes this military past.

Naarden is more than just (history of) the fortress. Discover this beautiful city! you can enjoy shopping, delicious food and enjoy culture at the galleries and museums. Don’t forget a visit to Het Arsenaal!
